Shree Bishnu Primary School
Situated in Dhorat village, Gorkha District of Nepal, Shree Bishnu Primary School serves a student population of 165 students. Down to Earth Adventure, in collaboration with funding partner Ayuda Directa Himalaya Spanish Charity, worked tirelessly to project manage the rebuild of 5 much needed classrooms. Gorkha District emerged as one of the most devastated areas following the 2015 earthquake. While this remote region boasts some of the poorest people in Nepal, it also has an unbreakable spirit amongst its members. Their determination and strength to rebuild and create a brighter future for their children is truly inspirational. We feel honoured to work alongside the community to witness great things in action.
Beyond overseeing the school rebuild project, Down to Earth Adventure also assisted Spanish optical company, Multiopticas and their Fundacion by organizing the logistics for an optical and general health camp aimed at servicing over 2000 people in the wider area of Dhorat village in 2016. The project saw Spanish optometrists working alongside Nepalese doctors and health professionals to deliver much needed care to villagers who would not otherwise receive basic health care that most of us take for granted. Plans are in place to do a follow up camp in Gorkha sometime in the not so distant future following camps spread across other needed areas.
Gorkha region offers many hidden natural gems. Located in a remote area of Nepal that sees limited tourists, Gorkha lies on the route to Manaslu restricted trekking area. It is possible to combine opportunities to assist community development projects in Gorkha with an off-the-beaten track experience in Manaslu.
