This trek offers a twist on the traditional Gokyo Lakes trek in the sense that it takes you off the beaten track and away from the more common route via Cho-La Pass en-route to Everest Base Camp. You will be amazed by the spectacular scenery and arguably the clearest views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Pumori and many other giants from your unique vantage point on top of Renjo-La Pass (5360m). With plenty of time to explore the majestic turquoise gems that make up Gokyo Lakes, the world’s highest freshwater lake system, your only dilemma will be how to pace yourself so that you don’t run out of memory space on your camera. Gokyo Lakes really is a photographer’s dream and you will not be disappointed by the exceptional scenery.
Added to this, is the opportunity within this trek to truly experience the local culture and traditional lifestyles of the Sherpas when you visit the small villages of Thame, Machhermo, Dole and Monjo. Visits to Khumjung will provide you with the chance to visit Sir Edmund Hillary’s school and see first-hand how his philanthropy is helping the village. Finally the mountain flights to and from Lukla will help to put into perspective the immense scale of the Himalayas and help you to quantify your achievements in completing the trek. This trek is for those of you who prefer to make their own path away from the hoards of other tourists. Your choice to take the path less travelled will surely provide you with the serenity and peace of mind to appreciate the Himalayas…
